Sehwag’s double triple

Bradman, Lara, and now Sehwag. The only people in test history to score two triple hundreds. C’mon Viru go for the four hundred!

tibet’s last stand?

Once the Olympics are over, Tibetans will not be able to ruffle the Chinese government’s feathers as much as they can now. I think we may see some really pro-active protesting over the next five months.

I salute President Mugabe

The ugliness of European colonialism can be seen clearly in the situation unfolding in Zimbabwe. It leaves a nation in shambles after years of wanton plundering, and then continues to try to plunder it, by installing a puppet regime(Morgan Tsvangirai) and imposing sanctions on any other government. They do not want to help Africa they want to help themselves to Africa.

President Mugabe has taken bold steps to stem the rot. I do hope he can hold out until the economic recession in the west weakens the west’s political clout and the rising powers in the East can go to Zimbabwe’s aid.

Tata Nano - should be electric

The Tata Nano seems perfect for an electric engine, and with a solar panel on the roof, it could start a mass-produced electric car revolution, not just in India but across the world. People would just need to get their buildings fitted out with a power outlet from which the car an be recharged overnight. It may take the cost of the car up a bit, but this would be offset by the non-dependence on petrol. It could actually be targeted at the upper middle class. Those just about ready to buy a three lakh($7,500) car, would jump at a 1.5 lakh($3,750) car.

DIY Kahlua

I drink alcohol very, very rarely. Beer sucks, and the rest I’m not that excited about, but I do remember the “Black Russian” I had years ago. Apparently making your own Kahlua isn’t all that difficult. Sugar, vanilla, water, coffee and cheap vodka actually. Will try this, one day.

on eBay

In the tech industry, today, prices drop fast and innovations in product lines happen with high fequency. Selling off an old device and buying a new one regularly, is quite practical, mobile phones being a prime example. eBay makes it possible.

Buying second-hand, has got me out of several difficult situations when computer parts are discontinued in the retail stores.

Becoming an entrepreneur is just a few clicks away. eBay allows you to reach a huge market for your home-made product.

The Tata Nano

I don’t think Americans will fit into it. Weight wise or ego wise. But it’s a good product for exporting to Africa and South America, maybe even eastern Europe. Besides, the safety standards aren’t very strict in those places.

Apparently in the U.S. the safety features would cost approx. $2000 alone(air bags etc.). In India that would be $400(one fifth the U.S. cost), raising the Nano’s price to about $3000, which is not that bad either.

Linux all the way!

20 days using PCLinuxOS 2007 now. I wont be going back to Windows, except maybe for some games, though i don’t game much.

Linux is the os of the future, for the desktop and especially for embedded devices.

I much prefer the KDE gui to Gnome. It provides a better crossover from Windows and also has very good applications made for it. KdeTV is the best TV viewer I’ve seen. It’s image motion filter is excellent.

I had to download “VLC” to get the old tv capture card working. “Windows Vista” would not recognise it any way. Setting up “Mythtv” was difficult but with help from the web over two days it finally started up. I have still to experiment with “transcode” or “ffmpeg” for recording live tv.
